Latitude & Longitude Stargazing Calibrator

Best aim angle and astronomical twilight window for your location.

Try the tool

Astronomical twilight (start): ~01:02 UTC

Astronomical twilight (end): ~08:49 UTC

Recommended zenith aim: latitude 40.0° from horizon (facing celestial pole)

Best azimuth range: N through E for deep-sky targets

Tool principle

The celestial pole altitude equals observer latitude; astronomical twilight adds ~1.5 h to sunset and subtracts the same from sunrise.

Data source: Native algorithm.

User guide

  1. 1Enter latitude and longitude.
  2. 2Aim your mount at an altitude equal to your latitude toward the celestial pole for polar alignment.
  3. 3Wait for the astronomical twilight window for deep-sky imaging.
